ABOUT EARFUL OF BOOKS

My love affair with audiobooks started when as a child I was presented with a tape of Anne of Green Gables. I listened to that tape so many times that 20 years on I can still recall the exact intonation of the reader's voice as she transported me from my bedroom to Prince Edward Island.

I can't quantify what I love about audiobooks. They are of course a more practical way of consuming books as I go about my daily life. But to me there is also something more personal about having a story read to me. A sad book becomes sadder, a happy one happier. And a scary story is positively terrifying when it's whispered in your ear by a skilled narrator. A good audiobook enhances the skill of a writer and brings the world and characters to life, so that by the end of it you feel as if you know them and wouldn't blink twice if Anne Shirley appeared on your doorstep ready to shepherd you to some adventure.

I started this blog to share my love of listening to stories, and my impressions of books, narration and the enjoyment they bring to me.

I hope you enjoy reading my musings and ramblings on all things audiobook.
